Evaluations are based on science-backed animal welfare standards. New clients are given a period to correct and meet the minimum requirements, after which they enter an annual auditing program.
Process, Product, & Program Certification
CloverLeaf offers certification for animal-related products, processes, and programs that impact animal care and welfare. Our structured, science-backed review process evaluates each submission using globally recognized frameworks—including the Five Freedoms and Five Domains—ensuring a thorough and credible assessment.
Evaluations are conducted by an independent committee with no conflicts of interest. Certifications are valid for up to three years and include optional public-facing seals that signal animal welfare leadership and support brand credibility.

Ongoing Certification
Each year, CloverLeaf evaluates a representative sample of animals, transportation, and facilities. If there are serious failures, the client may lose certification. To maintain the Certified Care™ seal, annual recertification is required.

Program tailored to each species
While foundational welfare criteria—such as timely euthanasia, humane handling, daily animal observations, and regular staff training—are consistent across species, the audit tools are designed to reflect species-specific welfare science and standards.

Continuing training
Audits alone don’t improve animal welfare—training does. Certified Care™ participants gain access to in-person or online training through our learning management system. Training is not only included in the program, it’s prioritized as a core driver of continuous improvement.

We are professional experts in animal welfare
All audits are performed by experienced CloverLeaf auditors. Many hold veterinary or advanced degrees, and all are PAACO-certified with extensive hands-on knowledge of livestock and poultry systems.
